5月2日-4日、11日-12日，美国霍顿大学胡伟教授应邀做客和山数学论坛第124期和127期，做了题为大数据应用中的机器学习方法的系列报告。我院部分教师和学生参加了本次活动。
报告中胡教授向大家介绍了大数据的广阔应用前景，指出大数据是一种资源，也是未来社会运转的核心。阐述了数据科学的三层研究模式：数学结构、模型、算法。提出针对大数据处理的紧迫需求，建立适合大数据分析的建模方法和开发高效的机器学习算法成为当前数据科学及其应用领域的研究热点。
报告结束后，胡伟教授与参会老师做了进一步的交流。
