内容摘要:In principle, type-II hyperbolic metamaterials (HMMs) cannot couple to waves traveling in the out-of-plane direction due to momentum conservation. Gratings have been proposed as a means to enhance the outcoupling efficiency, either with a “bulls-eye” structure or more recently as an array of nanoholes. To mitigate some of the short-comings of HMMs, we look forward a new method to outcouple high-k waves along the out-of-plane and propose a new asymmetric hyperbolic structure to allow for the engineering of outcoupling properties. The effective response of the entire HMM provide a drastic Purcell enhancement and enhance the emitter’s spontaneous emission rate. We subsequently investigate that coupling behavior is associated with the flexible control of the angle of the dispersion of HMM.
